Having a woodstove can be a real asset at Christmas time. With a wood burner you can create a cosy atmosphere that’s perfect for festive occasions. You could start your Christmas day but waking up early to get the fire going, then the whole family can sit round the warm fire opening their presents and listening to Christmas songs. That’s the picture we have in our head when we think about Christmas and wood burners, but you do have to make sure you’ve decorated the room accordingly too.

With any kind of log burner, it’s very important to keep a good distance away from combustibles, but that doesn’t mean you can’t decorate shelves, timber beams and other fixtures that are close to your fireplace. It’s very common in the UK to have a single wooden beam above your stove, and this is a look people have loved for centuries, and that then gives you the opportunity to store some decorations on the beam, or to attach your Christmas stockings to the beam, so long as they are not too close to the log burner! You can also add some tinsel, or perhaps position a festive themed rug beneath the stove. There is a lot you can do to make your living room more Christmassy, but making sure you bring out the character of the wood stove is going to be important.

You could also add fairly lights to your fireplace too, and it’s absolutely beautiful when a classic timber beam is lit up with stunning white LEd lights. You only need to lay them over the top and then plug them into the mains and you will have created a wonderful Christmas ambience in your room. If you don’t have a fireplace mantel and there’s not much of an area to position decorations near your stove, you can add reefs, mistletoe or festive prints to your wall. These will also work to provide a Christmassy feel and by positioning them directly above your burner on the wall, it will make for a really attractive, Santa-pleasing room.

Another vital decoration is of course the Christmas tree. With a wood burner, tinsel on your fireplace mantel, a brightly lit Christmas tree and a reef on the door, it will really feel like Christmas. Just make sure you have plenty of wood stored for your fire and ensure that it has been dried out so that it burns efficiently and gives off tremendous heat. There’s nothing worse than forgetting about buying the wood burner logs at this time of year because as soon as you get closer to Christmas, many shops will be sold out! So this is certainly something you need to plan for. Having a wood burner can definitely be an asset at Christmas time, as long as you know how to provide the finishing festive touches. The more decorations in your room, the more at home your woodstove will look, and we’re sure you’ll impress all of your friends and family on Christmas day!
